Kicking a man when he is on the ground is not the most ethical of approaches to life but it is hard not to do just that by backing relegation threatened Bolton to dish out more punishment to the beleaguered Chelsea boss, Andre Villas-Boas, by defeating the Blues at Stamford Bridge this Saturday. The odds of around 10/1 for a Bolton win are just too hard to resist, which is why this game will be the first of this weekend’s football tips.
Backing a team that are on “the crest of a wave” is also a sensible policy, which is why the second tip is Martin O’Neill’s Sunderland to beat West Brom on the road and in League One, the solid away form of Brentford can see them get a result at Scunthorpe.
Chelsea v Bolton – Away Win @ 11/1
Chelsea is a team who seem to have pressed the “self destruction button” in recent weeks and take on relegation candidates Bolton this weekend at Stamford Bridge in a match, where the outcome of which could decide the future of Blues boss, Andre Villas-Boas.
Defeat in midweek at Napoli in the Champions League followed a poor performance in their FA Cup draw last weekend at home against Birmingham City. It means that Chelsea have now gone five games in all competitions without a win and with a squad of players that contains a clear lobby of disenchantment with the manager and as such, it is difficult to see where they will re-discover the will and confidence to make a return to winning ways.
Bolton meanwhile have struggled all season and sit in the relegation zone and will head in tot his game knowing that all the pressure to win is on the home side. On paper, it is Chelsea who merit favouritism but at a best price of 11/1 with Bet Victor, a bet the away win looks too good to miss.
West Brom v Sunderland – Away Win @ 2/1
Martin O’Neill will take his rejuvenated Sunderland team to the Hawthorns this weekend, confident that they can continue their good form and add to the stuttering run of their opponents, West Brom, who have lose five of their last six Premier League home games. In fact the Baggies have only won twice at home all season from 14 games and although their away form has been their salvation, manager Roy Hodgson will not be relishing a visit from a team high in confidence and playing well.
Sunderland come to the match on the back of seven wins in their last nine games which has seen them rise to 8th in the Premier League table and earning them a place in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup. The Black Cats form gives them a great chance of picking up three points from this fixture and the odds of 2/1 to do some, only add to the appeal of backing O’Neil’s side.
Scunthorpe v Brentford – Away Win @ 9/5
Another away win can come at Scunthorpe, where Brentford should be good enough to take all three points against a team that has been woeful at home this season, winning just once in their last 11 at Glanford Park, losing eight in that timeframe.
Brentford haven’t been breathtaking on the road but are on the cusp of the Play-offs in League One on and know that a win here would put them even closer. They will be buoyed by the 4-0 home win over Carlisle last time out and can win this game at odds of 19/10.
Whilst the odds on all three of these picks are big enough to back as singles, anybody feeling brave enough could back the treble at a staggering 103/1 with Bet Victor.
