The Champions League group stage got underway in the past week and if the amount of goals that have been scored in the first round of Champions League matches is anything to go by then the tournament should be better than ever this year. This season’s Champions League final will be held at Wembley, which is extra incentive for an English club to get there, but the bookies still make an all Spanish final most likely with Barcelona and Real Madrid dominating the Champions League Odds.
Barcelona are the red hot favourites to win back the Champions League this season, they won it two seasons ago and went out to the eventual winners Inter Milan last season in the Champions League semi final. Barcelona look a solid proposition this season’s Champions League and are obviously the most likely winners but there will be another team in the final with them, the bookies make that between Real Madrid and Chelsea.
Real Madrid have flattered to deceive in recent years in the Champions League, normally failing to make it past the first knockout round. Their hopes this year are pinned on Jose Mourinho working his magic, he is seeking to become the first manager to win the Champions League with three different teams having already been successful in the competition with Porto and then Inter Milan last season. They look sure to do better this season but they just don’t seem to be capable of putting up a persistent challenge in the competition and they may have to wait until next year when Mourinho has been able to have more influence on the side.
Chelsea look as though they are ready to finally win the Champions League, they have started the season brilliantly under Ancelotti and are scoring goals for fun. Although many would like to see a Barcelona v Real Madrid final, perhaps this year the dream final is Barcelona v Chelsea, with the teams having had so many great duels in the past. Chelsea look the best of the English challenge with Man Utd only managing a draw against Rangers. Arsenal had an impressive result against Braga but they are likely to come unstuck later in the tournament whilst Spurs will be happy to just reach the knockout stage.
