Champions League is back with the third round in the Group stage and a classic duel in the competition as Real Madrid welcome Olympique Lyon in Group D.

Real Madrid showing a splendid form in recent matches, managing to win their last 4 played. They are top of this Group D with a maximum of 6 points in 2 played and trailing Barcelona by just one point in the Primera Division.

They defeated Dinamo Zagreb in the opening stage by the slightest of margins only to trash Ajax Amsterdam in the latest with a 3-0 scoreline.

Lyon second in the charts with 4 points gathered in their two games played, a goalless draw away to Ajax and a 2-0 victory at home over outsiders Dinamo Zagreb.

Only one victory in their last 6 matches played away is clearly something to worry, but in the past few years Lyons has become quite an authority in dealing with the mighty Real Madrid.

Champions League group stage on Wednesday with a series of intriguing fixtures now focusing on this Group E game that faces Bayer Leverkusen and Genk.

Bayer Leverkusen is going thorough a very though phase as they lost in their last 3 games played, one in the UCL and two in the Bundesliga conciding no less than 9 goals whilst scoring one.

They faced Bundesliga’s leaders and rivals Bayern Munchen in the weekend but failed to impress and recover with the game ending with a 3-0 result for the home side.

Genk started off the group phase with a positive result as they held Valencia to a goalless draw and with one point they are above their current adversaries.

It’s hard to see them managing to grab one of the 3 spots with such opposition in this stage so they will probably play a defensive game aiming for one point.

Second round in the Champions League group stage with a very interesting fixture between Real Madrid and Ajax Amsterdam, two of the emblematic teams of modern football.

Real Madrid leading Group D after grabbing all 3 points two weeks ago in their trip to Dinamo Zagreb and with a good morale after trashing Rayo Vallecano Saturday, 6-2 the final score.

They are clear favorites for this match especially for the home ground advantage but their form is not consistent in this start of the season alternating between great matches and surprising poor results.

Ajax Amsterdan with only one point in this Group D of the UCL after finishing in a goalless draw against Lyon in the opening match.

A very though group for them as Lyon and Real Madrid are expected to grab the top spots leaving Ajax to battle for the third spot against Dinamo Zagreb.

Second match in Group A of the Champions League, this one with a clear favorite for all three points as Manchester City welcomes Napoli.

Manchester city with a perfect start to the new season of the Premier League as they are currently on the second spot after 4 victories in 4 matches played but an inferior goal balance to local rivals Manchester United.

They have lost the Community Shield earlier on against the same Man United and their main aim of getting trophies is yet to be satisfied, Champions League being a great opportunity to show off the progress they had in the past few years.

Napoli back among the top teams in Europe after years of modest to poor performances having to deal with a very difficult debut as they travel to one of the trophy’s main candidates.

A promising start to the Serie A as they managed to defeat Cesena 1-3 in a match they dominated from beginning to end and a good morale boost for the long road ahead.

Second day of the first leg in the Champions League group stages as Villarreal welcomes Bayern Munchen on Wednesday in a match that can go either way.

Villarreal with a poor start to the new season as they managed only one point in the Primera division in two played, a humiliating blow from Barcelona in the opening stage 5-0 and a two all draw against Sevilla last week.

They finished fourth in last season’s table and they had to get past OB of Denmark to get in Group A but with the caliber of their adversaries, getting past this stage will be quite an achievement.

Bayern Munchen on the other hand displayed a superb form and although starting the Bundesliga season with a surprising defeat against M’gladback, they now top the table with 12 points in 5 played.

They are strong favorites for one of the top two spots and normally their main opponent will be Manchester City as Napoli and Villarreal should battle it out for the third spot.
