With only a slight advantage over Schalke 04 in the Bundesliga table, Bayern Munchen has a great opportunity on home ground to build on their lead as they welcome a struggling Hannover.

Only 2 victories for Bayern Munchen in the last 4 matches played in the competition but good results in the last 2, both played away first a victory over their closest competitors Schalke and a draw in the last round away to third Bayer Leverkusen.

They have the best statistic so far on home ground with no less than 10 victories and 4 draws in 15 matches played, losing only against Stuttgart but maintaining a good goal ratio of 26 scored and 12 conceded.

Hannover is on the 16th spot of the Bundesliga table, a spot that leads to a knock-out for them to remain in the first league but with a total of 27 points they are just one point short of salvation. Their recent performances might give them some hope in achieving their objective as they claimed 7 point out of the past 5 matches and pose a real threat to Bayern as they are highly motivated to take advantage of any opportunity.

Their away record is disastrous with only 3 victories and 2 draws in 14 played as it’s the goal ratio they now have, 13 scored and no less than 24 conceded showing the worst defense in the league.

Werder Bremen – Freiburg 10 April 2010

With Werder Bremen out of the race for the championship title of the Bundesliga, the team’s main focus is a Champions League spot now at 5 point distance but for this all matches are crucial including this against an always uncomfortable Freiburg team.

With a total of 48 points in 29 matches played, Werder Bremen’s only objective still standing this season is a third spot in the table occupied now by Bayer Leverkusen but with Borussia Dortmund above them their task is very difficult and one thing is sure, the team that will avoid making mistakes will probably claim it and have their go in the UCL preliminaries.

With their loss in the last round at Dortmun their chances have fallen dramatically and with an modest home ground statistic of 6 victories and 5 draws in 14 played even a team like Freiburg will push for it’s claim to at least one point.

Freiburg is in a very dangerous position, currently only the 16 spot which leads to a knock-out to stay in the Bundesliga and with the team’s current form a very good chance of falling even more, much to Hannover’s delight.

On Saturday all eyes on this derby match between the first 2 spots of the Bundesliga table with Schalke having a slight advantage due to their better performances in the last few games.

Schalke 04 got a 2 point advantage over Bayern Munchen and lead the Bundesliga with one of their best chances in the last few years to win the champions title, making this match a crucial one as they could get a comfortable lead in case of a victory.

The team is showing a very good form with 4 victories in the last 5 matches and only one draw, 2-2 away to Hamburger SV. They look very strong on home ground this season with 10 victories and 2 draws in 14 matches played with a good goal ratio of 25 scored and 10 conceded.

Of the 2 teams, Bayern seems to have an easier schedule in the last 6 rounds left of the Bundesliga with only Schalke and Leverkusen as strong opposition but with 2 defeats in the last 2 rounds of the competition they made it very easy for their adversaries to overpower them and take the lead.

There must be something about that first place in the German Bundesliga as all of the teams that until now have claimed it started having difficulties, this is the case with Bayern Munchen which after an incredible display of form and results has own only 2 of the past 5 played and have a very difficult match at hand against a rising VfB Stuttgart.

Bayern is heading into this match after a defeat in the last round away to Eintrach Frankfurt and with a total of 56 points they are only one point above Schalke and 3 from third Bayer Leverkusen.

The team’s home statistic would definitely recommend them as favorites for all 3 points as Bayern has won 10 and ended 4 draws, never tasting defeat this season and with a strong goal ratio of 28 scored and 10 conceded.

Stuttgart made an impressive recovery of their season and after starting off in the bottom of the table they have climbed up to the current 7th spot with 38 points but still with quite some distance from a place that will grant them access to next season’s Europa League.

Their statistic in away matches is still modest having ended in victory only 4 matches so far with another 4 draws in all 13 played and holding a negative goal ratio of 17 scored and no less than 18 conceded.

Coming out of a very difficult period for them in terms of results, Werder Bremen is once again in the books for a spot in next season’s European tournament but can’t afford any missed steps especially against lower ranked teams like Bochum.

Werder Bremen managed 3 victories in the last 5 matches played in the Bundesliga, curiously all in away games as at home they finished in draws against though opposition such as Leverkusen and Stuttgart. With this good run they have landed a 6th spot in the table and a total of 42 points, joust one under 5th Hamburger SV and 3 from 4th Borussia Dortmund, 2 of their most likely candidate for for this part of the standings.

The team’s home statistic is very poor, after no less than 12 matches in front of their supporters they gathered only 17 points from 4 victories and 5 draws losing the rest of 5 and displaying a modest goal ratio of 21 scored and 16 conceded, more than one goal received per game.

Bochum is falling dangerous in the table, ending up on the 14th spot before the start of this leg with a total of 27 points, only 4 above Hannover and the danger zone.  More important is the fact that their form has taken a big plunge with no victories in the last 4 matches played in the Bundesliga and losing the last 2 with Wolfsburg and Borussia Dortmund, nonetheless very competitive sides.

Their away statistic strikes as very decent for a team with their problems showing no less than 4 victories and 3 draws in 13 played but not completed with a good goal ratio as they managed to score only 11 and conceded no less than 20 thaws making me belive that this match will be one with quite a few goals.

Bayer Leverkusen – Hamburger SV 14 March 2010

All to familiar sight for Bayern Leverkusen with a very good run much of the season and the top spot for a while before falling in dramatic stile both in ranking and form, with an opponent such as Hamburger SV this week this match will guaranty a good spectacle and a true derby important for the top part of the standings in the Bundesliga.

Leverkusen managed only 1 victory in the last 5 matches played obtained against Wolfsburg on home ground, 3 draws with Bochum Werder and Koln and losing the last match of the competition surprisingly against struggling Nurnberg.

Their form has taken an important plunge which led to them losing the top spot in favor of Bayern and ending up on the third, 3 points distance from the leaders with this very difficult match at hand. They still show a great home ground statistic with 9 victories and 3 draws in all 12 played and the fact that they have yet to lose any in front of their supporters might be an important boost against such opposition as Hamburg.

Hamburger Sv not doing well either, with 2 victories in the past 5 matches played and the 4th spot with a total of 43 points, no less than 7 gap from their current adversaries and feeling the pressure from next in line Borussia Dortmund.

The team’s away statistic would not scare even the bottom ranked teams in the Bundesliga, wining only 4 matches so far and ending 6 in draws in 12 played but showing a decent goal ratio of 25 scored and 17 conceded.

Bayern Munchen top of the German Bundesliga and in full force after qualifying in the next round of the Champions League will take on relegation candidate Freiburg.

The German giants had only 2 points advantage over second Schalke 04 before the leg started and with a 2-1 scoreline in their Friday match in the ’83 minute, now 1 point behind  guarantying a spectacular battle to come.

Top of their game on home ground, Bayern has yet to lose any match in the 13 played with 9 victories and 4 draws and a crushing goal ratio for any opposition of 26 scored with only 9 conceded.

Freiburg has not won any of the past 11 matches played in the Bundesliga, claiming only 4 points from them and landing on a relegating 17th spot of the table with a total of 20 points, 1 point from Nurnberg and salvation.

Nothing really would recommend them to create serious problems against Bayern this Saturday but their decent statistic in away matches is in contrast with their overall performances and placement as they won 4 and ended 2 in draws in 13 scored and a normal negative goal ratio.

Friday match in the German Bundesliga with title contenders Schalke 04 welcoming mid-table Stuttgart for a very interesting match for the top standings configurations at the end of the week.

Schalke is revealing a great form in the domestic league ending in victory the last 2 matches played in the competition against uncomfortable competition Borussia Dortmund and away to Eintrach Frankfurt in a spectacular 4-1 display.

They reached the second spot of the table, trailing Bayern Munchen by only 2 points and profiting by Leverkusen’s downfall these past weeks. They look very strong when playing at home showing a statistic of 9 victories and 2 draws in 13 matches played and a very good goal ratio of 23 scored and only 9 conceded.

VfB Stuttgart made huge improvements from the poor display in the first half of the season and made a great leap in the table to the current 7th spot, still holding some chances of grabbing a spot in next season’s Europa League as they are 7 points from Dortmund and 4 from 6th Werder Bremen.

A great form for them as well these past few week with 3 victories in the last 5 matches played and losing only to Hamburg. Their statistic is still suffering from the first part of the season though with only 4 victories and 4 draws in 12 matches played away and a neutral goal ratio with 16 scored and conceded.

Dramatic change for Wolfsburg in terms of play and results lately in all competitions as the team seems to have left behind their poor season so far and a new chance to advance and build on their position is this match against Bochum in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

Their victory over Schalke 2 weeks ago marked the end of the incredible 10 game streak without victory for Wolfsburg. The good results continued with a victory by the slightest of margins against Hannover in the domestic league but also the trashing of Villarreal in Europa League that meant the German side advanced in the next phase of the tournament.

The team is still to improve on it’s statistic as at home they have won only 4 matches and ended 2 in draws from 12 played with a negative goal ratio of 25 scored and 28 conceded revealing a real problem in defense.

The derby match of this leg in the German Bundesliga and one of only 2 to be played this Sunday in the competition as Bayern Munchen welcomes Hamburger SV.

After a 9 game winning streak in the domestic league, Bayern Munchen got just one point from their trip to Nurnberg last week as it finished 1-1. When looking at the team’s performance and results lately, Nurnberg looked like an unlikely candidate to stop Bayern and the team lost yet another chance to overcome Leverkusen in the overall table.
