Final stage of the Italian Serie A as well and a derby match between AC Milan and Juventus, 2 teams which have struggled and will probably be glad to start fresh in the summer.

AC Milan is on the third spot of the table, a spot that will be held by them no matters the outcome of this final leg as they have 3 points over Sampdoria and no less than 10 gap from second AS Roma.

This match will be an interesting one from another point of view, coach Leonardo will split ways with Milan after this but the current form of the team is really bad with only one victory in the last 5 played and losing the last 2. Their record on home ground shows 11 victories and 5 draws in 18 played but with 3 draws in the last 3 played here a match against such an opponent will be difficult.

Juventus is on a disappointing 7th spot after what was one of their poorest seasons in the past few years and claiming a participation in next season’s Europa League only due to the fact that Inter won the championship.

They have been alternating victories with defeats lately, managing good results on home ground but lossing all points in away matches as the case with the last 3 played.

Palermo – Sampdoria 9 May 2010

One of the most interesting matches in the Italian Serie A with 2 more legs to go as Palermo and Sampdoria are in a direct battle for the 4th spot which bring access to the Champions League in the summer.

Palermo definitely has the upper hand in this match as they play in front of the home crowd and with this match solved their last round trip to an already relegated Atalanta should not be a problem.

They are very strong on home ground with a statistic only second to champions Inter that reveals 13 victories and 5 draws with no defeats in all 18 played and a very good goal ratio of 33 scored and only 13 conceded.

With a 4 game winning streak, Sampdoria managed to overcome Palermo in the table but they have a difficult schedule as they will welcome a competitive Napoli team in the last leg.

Their away statistic is far from impressive with only 6 victories and 3 draws to their name in all 18 matches played and a terrible goal ratio of 17 scored and 30 conceded.

with this week announcement that Leonardo will no longer be with AC Milan after this season it would be interesting to see how the team performs against Fiorentina this Saturday.

Milan is showing a very poor form with only one victory in the last 7 matches in the Serie A and with 2 losses in the last 2 played. The team is currently on the third spot, a position they will most likely keep until the end of the season as their major threat, Sampdoria sits 4 points behind.

Their home statistic is way to week for a tournament like the Serie A and especially for a team with their claims as Milan won 10 and ended 5 in draws in all 17 played, a good side to the story being the 33 goals scored but a weak defense as the 20 conceded shows.

Fiorentina is also struggling in the competition with only one victory in the last 6 matches played and falling dramatically in the charts to the current 10th spot with a total of just 46 points.

Their last away victory dates back to mid March with a 1-3 final score against Napoli, from that point on it’s all been down hill managing only one point in the last 3 played and bringing the away statistic to 4 victories and 5 draws in 17 played with a negative goal ratio of 20 scored and 24 conceded.

Just 2 matches are being played on Saturday in the Italian Serie A and between them this one in which current champions Inter welcome a struggling Atalanta.

Inter is in a fine form and with a good morale after 2 straight victories, bots against world class opponents, Juventus in the Serie a and Barcelona in the Champions league this week at the end of a superb display of football on Tuesday.

They still trail AS Roma by one point in the table as their direct opponents managed to come back after being led by Lazio in the Roma derby and won 1-2 with Vicinic scoring a double. Inter has the best home statistic of all teams in the competition with 13 victories and 4 draws in all 17 played showing a great goal ratio of 35 scored and 11 conceded.

Atalanta is still in the relegation zone with a total 34 points they sit just 2 under salvation and the team is showing important signs of recovery with 3 victories in the last 5 matches played making the battle at the bottom of the table a very disputed one.

Although they managed to grab important points lately, they all have been on home ground as in away things are terrible with no points in the last 4 trips and a total of just 2 victories and 3 draws in 17 played.

Derby match in the city of Rome this Sunday with always a lot of tension surrounding the clashes between Lazio and AS Roma in the Italian Serie A championship.

This may be one of the most unbalanced disputes in years between the 2 teams as AS Roma is pushing through and held the top spot until Inter’s match on Friday against Juventus and a Lazio team struggling through out the season and now only on the 16th spot of the table.

The home team has won 3 out of the past 5 matches played with the remaining 2 ended in draws which led them to rise up above the relegation zone and keep a somewhat comfortable 7 points advantage over the line.

Roma are clear favorites to win this match but with Lazio in a upward spiral and a stadium packed of hostile supporters will make their mission very difficult. Five straight victories lead Roma to the top spot and made them go head to head with Inter for the championship title.

Their away statistic is not that great with only 6 victories and no less than 7 draws in 16 matches played and a goal ratio showing 26 scored with a worrying 22 conceded,  most of their points coming from home matches.

Stadio Giuseppe Meazza will host an important venue on Friday as Internazionale Milano welcomes Juventus for this traditional derby of the Serie A.

After a long domination in the competition, Inter lost it’s first spot of the Serie A to AS Roma and now trail them by only 1 point making this a very important match for them as one mistake could see them out of the race and their adversaries building a comfortable position.

The team is going through a though phase with only 2 victories in the last 7 matches of the tournament and showing real problems in morale and motivation as in the Champions League their game is much improved over what they have showed in the championship. They still look solid on home ground with 12 victories and 4 draws in all 16 played and a very good goal ratio of 33 scored and only 11 conceded.

Juventus has taken a huge plunge in the standings and ended up on the 6th spot with real pressure from next in line Napoli but still prospects of claiming a Champions League spot for next season as 4th Palermo are just 3 points away.

Two victories for them in the last 3 matches played but both obtained with lower ranked teams of the competition Atalanta and Cagliari and showing real problems in away games failing to grab any points from the last 3 bringing the record to 7 victories, 2 draws and no less than 7 defeats.

Napoli – Parma 10 April 2010

Not to much separating these teams in the Italian Serie A table with Napoli holding on to a Europa League spot and Parma losing ground fast due to the large number of matches ended in draws recently.

Napoli managed to win 2 out of the past 5 matches played in the competition, both on home ground and one of them very important against a struggling Juventus team, taking their place and advancing up to the current 7th spot with only one point ahead.

Further progress is possible for them as 4th and 5th Palermo and Sampdoria are just 2 point in front but the team really needs to work on it’s away game. As far as home statistic goes, it a very decent one with 8 victories and no less than 7 draws in all 16 played, losing only to Fiorentina but managing a good goal ratio of 22 scored and 13 conceded.

Somehow Parma’s made an incredible recovery and from a likely candidate in the relegation zone they are now in a comfortable 10th spot. They have chances at a European tournament spot but the distance may prove to great as they have only 43 points at the moment.

Their away statistic is still very poor as the team managed to win only 2 matches and end another 6 in draws in all 16 played showing a very disappointing goal ratio of only 15 scored and no less than 28 conceded.

As AS Roma managed a win over Inter in the last round of the Serie A, things are heating up again at the top of the table with only 1 point separating the 2 teams. This is a great opportunity for Inter to get the morale boost they need and with a conclusive victory over struggling Bologna but as seen in previous matches the determining fact is motivation for the current champions.

Inter already grabbed an important victory in the Champions League this week against CSKA Moskva but the scoreline of 1-0 is only encouraging as their adversaries have not scored away. In the Serie A things are much more complicated with Inter managing only one victory in the last 5 matches played and holding on to the top spot especially due to AC Milan’s downfall.

Even Giussepe Meazza doesn’t seem to be the fortress it one was as they won only one of the past 3 matches on home ground bringing the statistic to 11 victories and 4 draws, reassuring remains the goal ratio of 30 scored and only 11 conceded.

Bologna has fallen dramatically in the standings in the recent period with 3 losses in the last 3 matches played in the tournament and now a total of  just 35 points, only 7 above the relegation zone and if all goes in the same manner they have real reasons to be caution.

A very poor statistic in away matches for them with the last 2 played ending in losses they won only 3 and 4 draws in all 15 played with a very poor goal ratio of 14 scored and no less than 22 conceded.

A very good week so far for Inter as they managed to win over Livorno and Ac Milan stumbled away to Parma but the trip to Roma is certain to put up more problems.

As Roma is in a good shape after wining the last 2 matches of the competition and entering the championship total race as they are on the third spot with a total of 59 points, 4 from the leaders and current opposition, Inter Milan.

They are very strong on home ground with no less than 12 victories so far and 1 draw, losing only 2 in all 15 played and showing a very good goal ratio of 29 scored and 12 conceded, a great appetite for offensive football.

Inter thrashed Livorno this week 3-0 the final score but this match will most certainly cause more problems especially as they will travel to a packed stadium of hostile supporters.

The team still holds the best statistic for away matches in this competition with 7 victories and 5 draws in 15 matches played on other stadiums with a good goal ratio of 27 scored and 15 conceded.

With both teams playing on offense this match will probably be one with many goals and occasions at both posts.

After 3 straight draws in the Italian Serie A, AS Roma are looking to break the dry streak with a victory over struggling Udinese.

Roma is third in the overall standings and with a total of 43 points there’s not much room for them to move in as whatever the outcome of this leg will be, their position is secured and most likely it’s the one they will end the season in.

They have made the home ground a true fortress with few waisted points as they managed no less than 11 victories and 1 draws in 14 played with a very good goal ratio of 25 scored and 10 conceded, only leaders Inter ranking better.

Udinese is showing small steps of improvement from their disastrous season, only on the 15th spot so far and 7 points over the relegation zone. The team’s only reason for confidence is a fairly good home football as in away games the situation is terrible.

They have yet to win any of the matches played whilst traveling managing only 5 points in 5 draws and losing the rest of 9 with an incredible weak goal ratio of only 8 scored and no less than 21 conceded
