Liga I table positions: Steaua Bucuresti -3, Dinamo Bucuresti – 4

*matches in all competitions

Romania’s biggest derby match with just two more rounds in this season of Liga I as Steaua Bucharest welcomes Dinamo in a prestige game.

Steaua Bucharest is regarded as having the better odds against their rivals. They will certainly take advantage of the home pitch with around 50k supporters behind them.

Steaua is currently on the third spot of the table with a total of 62 points and although in theory they can hope for the trophy, practically the second spot is the highest possible outcome. A great form for them with four straight victories in recent matches gives them a great morale and with some good achievements in terms of play they can certainly hope for a victory.

Dinamo Bucharest have a though match ahead, the pressure is high in the squad to obtain a victory against the biggest rival after losing their last two matches against Steaua, a painful 1-2 defeat in last year’s Cup final and 1-3 in the first duel of the season.

Two victories for Dinamo in recent matches but with a total of 59 points, an Europa League spot is about the highest they can go in the Liga I, hoping for a better outcome in the Cup final they will play next week.

My pick: Steaua Bucuresti to win ( Under 2.5 goals )

Cup Final in Serbia as Crvena Zvezda, also known as Red Star Belgrade on the European Stage, welcomes Borac Cacak on Wednesday the 16th of May.

Crvena Zvezda starting off as favorites in this decisive game, highly charged to grab the only remaining trophy after their bitter rivals Partizan won the domestic league title.

A good run for them in latest matches with no less than four victories in their last five official matches, granting them the second spot of the Serbian Super Liga with one round remaining.

Borac Cacak, on the other hand, sees itself relegated to the second division after a very poor display that ended with the current 15th spot out of a total of 16 teams.

No victories for them in their last six matches played, managing only one draw and losing the remaining five only to have very slim chances of accomplishing something dramatic in this cup final.

My pick: Crvena Zvezda to win ( Over 2.5 goals )

*matches in all competitions

Return leg of the Europa League playoff in the Belgium Pro League with Cercle Brugge looking to defend their fragile one goal advantage over Mons on Monday.

Cercle Brugge starting off this match as favorites for the last Europa League spot in play. They finished top of Play-offs II Group A and grabbed a crucial away goal in the first leg of the confrontation against Mons, Rudy scoring in the 60′ minute.

They now have two straight victories in overall giving Cercle Brugge a good morale and an advantage due to the home pitch.

Mons as well managed to win Group B in the same Play-off stage but with three straight matches without victory it’s hard to see them managing anything special here.

The difference in score is not a great one and in any case, Mons is forced to score, this fact alone should lead to an offensive game on their part and an opened game throughout.

My pick: Cercle Brugge to win ( Under 2.5 goals )

There are only two live matches this weekend in the Premiership with Sky selecting the Premiership title race as their focus and that means we’ll have the choice of watching Man City v QPR or Sunderland v Man Utd but there are other games that also catch the eye this weekend that are worth a bet.

First of all the live games, Man Utd look a bit short to beat Sunderland at the Stadium of Light on Sunday. Man Utd are just 4/9 to beat Sunderland but the players know a win still probably isn’t going to be enough with Man city almost certain to beat QPR and that could affect their approach to the game. Sunderland’s form may have dipped recently but they still aren’t being beaten very often, they’ve only lost two of their last eight and they’ve only lost once at home under Martin O’Neill in the league. A draw would be no surprise here and looks the value play at very nice odds of 4/1, especially with Man Utd failing to win three of their last five matches.

Man City face a very straight forward task against QPR, Man City have won 21 of their last 22 home games in the league and draw the other and they’ve averaged almost three goals a game this season at Eastlands. QPR come into this game with the worst away form in the league by a mile, they’ve managed just two points from their last twelve away games in the Premiership, that’s a quarter of what the next worst team Blackburn have managed. QPR conceded six on their last away day at Chelsea and whilst Man City might not hit as many as that it would be a surprise if City couldn’t win by more than two goals, at 21/20 they are a fair price to win this in the handicap -2 goals.

The best of the non televised games could end up being Everton v Newcastle, a match which features two of the in form teams in the league. Both teams signed a striker in January and that seems to have pushed both on and both teams have plenty to play for here with Everton looking to finish above Liverpool and Newcastle hoping to qualify for the Champions League. Newcastle have a mixed away record recently with four wins and four losses from eight games whilst Everton have been formidable at home, winning seven of their last eight at Goodison Park. Newcastle’s form makes the draw look unlikely and Everton’s form makes anything but an Everton win look unlikely so Everton should be a good bet to win this match at 5/4.

Top two clubs in Germany face off for the last trophy still in play as Bundesliga champions Borussia Dortmund take on runners up Bayern Munchen in the DFB Pokal final on Saturday.

Borussia Dortmund has the opportunity to win their second tournament this year after managing a super performance in the league that brought them the Bundesliga trophy.

They certainly have the upper hand over Bayern Munchen, both in terms of morale after winning their last direct match, and in terms of fitness with the competition closed and no other games remaining to be played.

It remains to be seen how Bayern Munchen will approach this match. They failed to keep up the pace with Borussia Dortmund in the last stages of the Bundesliga but managed to qualify in the Champions League final that will be played exactly one week from this game.

It’s a chance for them to grab the second most important trophy in Germany and prove, to themselves more importantly, that Borussia Dortmund does not really dominate the German football. The interesting part will be how they will balance this with avoiding injuries for the Champions League final.

My pick: Borussia Dortmund to win ( Over 2.5 goals )

Europa League Final on Wednesday the 9th of May with two Spanish Clubs taking to the field as Atletico Madrid welcomes Athletic Bilbao in Bucharest, Romania.

Although a very though fixture to predict is seems that Atletico Madrid has a slight advantage, at least in terms of betting odds, given by their better Primera Division ranking and their superior run in Europa League so far.

Two matches where played between the two teams so far this season giving us a better reference for the Final ahead with both teams managing home wins in spectacular games, 3-0 victory for Athletic Bilbao in the start of the season and a 2-1 win for Atletico Madrid in the last game between the two.

Atletico Madrid managed to reach this final with an incredible 11 game winning streak in Europa League, they finished top of Group I with a comfortable four points advantage over second Udinese and continued to eliminate Lazio, Besiktas, Hannover 96 and Valencia in the semi-final stage.

A good form for Atletico in overall with no less than five victories in their past seven matches played, holding the 5th spot in the Primera division with one more round to go.

Athletic Bilbao was a true surprise in the Europa League this season, as their opponents, managing to finish top of Group F ahead of teams such as Salzburg and PSG only to run past Lokomotiv Moskva, Manchester united, Schalke 04 and Sporting Lisbon in the semi-final. Reaching the final after eliminating adversaries ranked much higher than that of Atletico Madrid.

Their overall form is not that good, no victories for them in their last three matches played, losing against Zaragoza and Real Madrid and finishing in a goalless draw against Getafe last week, nevertheless whilst resting their top players for this fixture.

My pick: Atletico Madrid to win ( Over 2.5 goals )

Action in Russia’s Premier League, the Championship Group stage on Tuesday as CSKA Moskva attempts to hold it’s Champions League spot as they face Kuban Krasnodar.

CSKA Moskva is on the second spot in this group stage with a total of 72 points. They have a 15 points gap from leaders Zenit but in danger of losing it’s spot as the following three teams are no more than two points below.

A dramatic turn in terms of form for CSKA Moskva in recent matches with two straight victories, managing to end a 5 game streak without any wins only to keep their fragile advantage for the spot that leads into the Champions League preliminaries.

Kuban Krasnodar is last in this group, totaling only 59 points in all 42 matches played and keeping a fragile positive goal balance of +5.

No victories for Kuban in their last seven matches played, managing five draws and suffering two defeats.

My pick: CSKA Moskva to win ( Over 2.5 goals )

*matches in all competitions

Three rounds left in this season of the French Ligue 1 and PSG is still trailing Montpellier at the top of the table as they now have to face a dificult trip to Valenciennes.

Valenciennes is currently on the 12th spot of the table, totaling 40 points in all 35 matches played and having a 6 point advantage over the relegation zone.

A victory for them would mean that they are practically out of danger but with no less than three defeats in their last four played it’s hard to see this happening against PSG.

PSG is still in the race for the trophy, with a three point gap from leaders Montpellier they have to threat every match as a decisive one and hope that their rivals will lose.

No being able to sustain the same amount of pressure throughout the season is PSG’s main problem, after a superb start to the competition they started losing ground in the later stages and are now facing the painful prospect of finishing second.

My pick: PSG to win ( Under 2.5 goals )

Only two more rounds remaining in the Seria A season and all is still to be decided especially in the upper part of the table, last match of the day on Saturday now in focus as AS Roma welcomes Catania.

Roma has fallen dramatically in rankings these past few week, and after just two victories in their last 8 matches played, they are now on the 7th spot of the Serie A table with a total of 52 points and a goal balance of +5.

They still hold some chances of claiming a spot in the next season of Europa League but tows chances are slim as, on the 6th spot, Inter has a three point advantage.

Catania on the other hand, has no such hopes and with a total of 47 points in all 36 played, they are now on a comfortable 10th spot of the table with no relegation threats or European tournament aspirations.

The form that Catania has showed recently, closely resembles that of Roma, this time just one victory in their last 8 played and a steady drop in rankings.

My pick: AS Roma to win ( Under 2.5 goals )

Once again we have four live games from Saturday to Monday and they include the FA Cup final between Liverpool and Chelsea. Here are the best bets for this weekend’s live matches.

ITV1 will be showing the FA Cup Final which is a late kick off this year at 17:15. Both sides lost during the week in games they were expected to win at home and both teams failed to score. Hopefully that was just a case of players having one eye on this match and not a sign of things to come. Liverpool already have Wembley success on their CV this season from the Carling Cup but they did need penalties to beat Cardiff whilst Chelsea have a great FA Cup record, this would be their fourth FA Cup win in six years. The FA Cup is traditionally a low scoring affair and under 2.5 goals should be a good bet here at 3/4 whilst Chelsea look most likely to triumph out of the two teams at quite generous odds of 6/4 against a team who has lost seven of their eleven home games since winning the Carling Cup.

On Sunday on Sky Sports 1 we have an early kick off which features Chelsea’s midweek conquerors Newcastle at home against league leaders Man City. If Man City can win this they will more or less guarantee themselves the Premiership title and they are a bit short at 4/6 to do so considering Newcastle have only lost two home games all season. Newcastle should score in this match and if Newcastle score at the moment it seems it will be Papiss Cisse who gets the goal, he is the joint 8th top scorer this season despite only signing in January! Cisse is 9/4 to score at anytime and that looks much better value than a Man City win, although the two are obviously not mutually exclusive.

The second Sky Sports 1 match on Super Sunday is Man Utd v Swansea and the home side will have been praying for a slip up from their title rivals in the earlier game. If Man City have won against Newcastle Man Utd will need to try and narrow the goal difference gap between themselves and Man City and that could see them rack up quite a wide margined win. Man Utd are 8/15 in the -1 handicap and 5/4 in the -2 handicap and both of those bets are certainly worth considering for this match.

We have a Monday Night Football offering once again this week on Sky Sports 1 and it is Blackburn and Wigan who go head to head in a full on relegation battle. Wigan have opened up a six point gap on Blackburn after five wins in seven games whilst Blackburn have lost six of their last seven league matches, only beating the woefully out of form Norwich. Wigan are a clear form pick here and at 19/10 they look really good value. Of course this is a game that could go either way but almost every match has that threat, it is not often you get almost 2/1 on a team in such better form though so Wigan should be taken as a really good value bet on Monday.
