Egypt produced the only surprise so far in the Confederations Cup and proved that the good game against Brazil was not luck with a fantastic 1-0 victory over raining World Cup champions, Italy, on Thursday and will now encounter US, a team that has not managed to win any points so far.
Egypt, with 3 goals scored against Brazil, in their first game of the tournament raised some eyebrows and only a penalty kick by Kaka in the 90th minute made them lose an important point as the scoreline showed 4-2 at the end.
Mohamed Homos was the man of the match against Italy in the last game, with a goal in the 40th minute of the encounter settled the final score for a fantastic win against one of the favorite for the Confederations Cup.
Now standing third in Group B with 3 points, as Italy, they have a good chance of advancing in the semi-finals as with a win against United States and any result besides a win for Italy in their clash with Brazil will see them through.
USA is bottom of the group, with no points won, they have the same counter performance only as New Zealand in Group A. 2 matches played so far against Italy and Brazil, the top 2 teams, and their record shows 1 goal scored and 6 conceded with one man eliminated in each of the games.
Normally I would have thought that the United States team would be favorite against Egypt but with the current results that each of the teams showed and most importantly the level of soccer showed, Egypt looks the stronger side, nonetheless it’s a very difficult match to predict.
