Another low risk bet on Tuesday as the second qualifying round of Europa League kicks of and Turkish giants Besiktas welcome Vikingur.

Besiktas finished only on the 4th spot of the Turkis Super Lig table thaws having to enter the qualifiers early this season but faced with such an opponent they are certainly on their way to the next round.

The team struggled in the last stages of the domestic league but hopefully with 3 months of preparation they are ready to tackle the new season.

Vikingur is a virtually unknown team from the Faroe Islands, established only 2 years ago they managed to grab the third spot in the domestic league and enter the preliminaries for the Europa League.

They don’t look like they stand any chances especially on the opposition pitch and their current 6th spot in the league speaks for itself.

My tip:  Besiktas to win (over 3.5 goals )

Second qualifying round of the Champions League and bigger manes are entering the competition to secure access to the group stage of this 2010-2011 season.

Partizan Belgrade may be the biggest team in this early stage, the former Champions League winners won the league title last season but the poor performances of Serbian teams lately in European events mean that they are still a long way off for a place in the groups.

They are certainly determined to win against the Armenian team with the manager quoted as saying that they will approach their opponents as if they where Barcelona.

Pyunik Yerevan are widely regarded as outsiders in this double leg fact reflected in the betting odds but this team will certainly put up a good fight.

They have one great advantage over their rivals and it lies in the fact that the Armenian Championship is well under way and their fitness levels may be over Partizan’s.

My tip:  Partizan to win

World Cup 2010 Final

Netherlands last 5 matches:  win win win win win

Spain last 5 matches: win win win win win

Netherlands FIFA ranking: 4

Spain  FIFA ranking: 2

The big 2010 World Cup final with two teams that few expected to reach this stage of the competition and battle it out for the ultimate trophy in football as the Netherlands welcome Spain this Saturday.

Netherlands with 6 victories out of 6 matches so far in the competition exited in stile from a easy group after defeating Denmark, Japan and Cameroon. Their 8th Finals opponent, Slovakia where no match for them as well but put up a real fight.

Brazil where the only big name that the Dutch encountered so far showing great discipline in tactics to defeat the multiple champions 2-1 after a tense match.

The semi finals brought a very spectacular match against Uruguay, a match that ended 3-2 for Netherlands but Spain will certainly prove a harder opponent for them.

With the last 3 matches played between these 2 teams ending in victory for the Netherlands, Spain is certainly determined to lift the trophy in front of them.

Spain started the tournament with a painful defeat at the hands of Switzerland but recovered in the following matches to bet the mighty Germany in the semi-final.

Their top player so far was David Villa from which fans expect to show a great form in the final as well but their main strength so far was in the group play and tactical arrangement on the pitch.

My tip:  Spain to win (under 2.5 goals )

Spain  FIFA ranking: 2

Second semi-final of the 2010 World Cup and a very exciting match between the spectacular German team and the Euro trophy holders Spain.

Although close in odds at the bookies, Germany has a slight advantage over their rivals, this may be due to it’s previous opponents England and Argentina which where no match for their offensive.

Germany is motivated to avenge the result in the Euro final 2 years ago and not only reach the final but win it playing agains the Netherlands who went past Uruguay in the first semi-final.

Miroslav Klose and Tomas Muller make up a great attacking couple and with Bastian Schweinsteiger at the middle competing for the player of the tournament award. Breaking down Spain’s defense will most likely prove more challenging that Argentina or England and the match will be played mostly in the middle.

Spain relies on David Villa’s form as top striker Fernando Torres was a big disappointed so far in the World Cup. they seem to have had some luck as their opponents don’t live up to what Germany has encountered.

Their last match against Paraguay was a close one decided in the 83′ minute by David Villa and with lot’s of suspense at the end. It seems that they rely more on the force and experience of midfielders more than anything.

My tip:  Germany to win (over 2.5 goals )

With favorites and big rivals Brazil out of the tournament, Argentina is definitely keen on capitalizing but a match against Germany is one of the hardest test they could encounter.

From the 2 sides, Argentina looked like the team with most composure, having won all matches played so far in the 2010 World Cup their claim is clearly the ultimate trophy.

One of the weaknesses showed by the South American team was their defense as the players in this compartment are not mobile and have been surprised time and time again by the opposition’s attackers.

Germany got a very well deserved morale boost from their last knock-out match when they trashed England. This will be the hardest opponent encountered so far in the tournament and a real challenge  if their claims to the trophy are to be taken seriously.

Germany has a very young team but this doesn’t mean they are unexperienced, they showed real team work and a very good tactical display in the previous matches except their only loss against Serbia.

My tip:  Argentina to win ( hard to predict, bookies place Argentina with the better odds my guess would be more than 2.5 goals )

2010 World Cup 8th Finals are starting on Friday with a very interesting match between Netherlands and Brazil, 2 of the teams that have showed real strength so far in the tournament.

Netherlands have been running clockwise since the final tournament started with 4 victories in 4 matches played surpassing Denmark, Japan and Cameroon in the group stages and just edging Slovakia in the first knock out 2-1.

They for a very balanced team as they managed to score 7 goals and conceded 3 in all 4 matches, only Denmark failing to score against them.

Brazil showed real offensive play with Chile in the knockouts, crushing the opposition 3-0 to advance in stile and keep the fans happy after the disappointing match against Portugal in the group stage.

Elano will miss the Friday match after injury, the only important player from both sides. This game is likely to be an open one as both teams focus more on attack than defense making the outcome very difficult to predict.

My tip:  Brazil to win (over 2.4 goals )

Spain FIFA ranking: 2

Portugal FIFA ranking: 3

Another big day in the 2010 World Cup knock out phase as European champions Spain take on their long time rivals and neighbors Portugal.

Spain lost their debut match in the tournament, going down 0-1 to Switzerland but managed to repair this in results with Honduras and a close game against Chile.

Although their last 2 victories granted them access to the knock outs, Spain has yet to show real strength in terms of group play and this will be their first real test against an experienced side.

Portugal qualified from group G of the World Cup managing a total of 5 points and grabbing the second spot after top favorites Brazil.

Their goalless draw with the leaders brought them into this phase of the competition but also a great opponent. Portugal may have a good advantage in terms of morale as they won their previous match against Spain 1-0 but even this result dates back to 2004 and is no longer relevant.

I expect a very close match with few real chances on either side, Portugal has yet to concede any goals so far in the tournament so less than 2.5 goals during regular time.

My tip:  Draw ( Spain to qualify )

South-American clash in the knock out phase of the World Cup as tournament favorites and five times champions Brazil take on Chile on Monday.

Both times these 2 teams meet in the preliminaries leading to the big tournament, Brazil managed to win quite easily, a 0-3 victory away and 4-2 back home so there is really n doubt who the favorite is.

Brazil won Group G after victories over North Korea and Cote d’Ivoire but displayed little football in the goalless draw against Portugal, result which allowed both to qualify. It’s a visible change in play on the Brazil squad, no longer focusing on spectacle and offensive charges, Dunga seems to have brought pragmatism as well with the emphasis on result rather.

Chile managed to qualify from Group H from the second spot after favorites Spain but their victories over Switzerland and Honduras where far from conclusive.

They lost the last match to Spain 1-2 and now have to face the mighty Brazil. Only 3 goals scored by them in the preliminaries and also 3 conceded showing that they focus on defense.

My tip:  Brazil to win

Germany  FIFA ranking: 6

England FIFA ranking: 8

One of the biggest rivalry in world football this historic clash between Germany and England repeats itself in the knock out phase of the 2010 World Cup this Sunday.

No big favorite to chose from the both but Germany is starting off with with an advantage having showed a consistent display of football in the group phase if we exclude the defeat against Serbia.

Germany’s younger group of players might make the difference but it’s highly unlikely that they will force on the offensive. I expect a caution game from both team with a German team focused more on tactics and placement on the pitch whilst trying to score on the counter-attack. They will be very vulnerable if they concede a goal and England will defend.

England managed to cope with the pressure from their poor start to the tournament and won their match against Slovenia by the slightest of margins only to enter the knock-outs and meet another favorite to the trophy.

So far, England has yet to display a very good team work and it’s lacking both in attack where Rooney has not scored any goals so far and the team managed to qualify scoring only 2 goals in the group phase, but more surprisingly in the middle, regarded as their strong spot with Gerard and Lampard failing to complete each other.

My tip:  Germany to win ( under 2.5 goals )

Uruguay last 5 matches:  win win draw win win

South Korea last 5 matches: loss loss win loss draw

Uruguay FIFA ranking: 16

South Korea FIFA ranking: 47

With the group phase over the 8-th final begins on Saturday as group A winners Uruguay take on South Korea.

Uruguay has the better chance of claiming victory in this match and advancing in the World Cup 2010 after a very good display in the group stages.

Two victories and one draw made Uruguay finish group A on the top spot, 0-0 with France in the first round followed by 2 victories, a superb 3-0 trashing of hosts South Africa and a 1-0 win over Mexico in the last round.

South Korea managed to qualify from the second spot in a very difficult and challenging group B below favorites Argentina and ahead of Greece and Nigeria.

Only one victory for them in the first round against a very disappointing Greek team, afterwards a painful 1-4 defeat at the hands of Argentina and the spectacular 2-2 draw against Nigeria to claim second spot with 4 points.

My tip:  Uruguay to win ( 1-0 score )
