Derby in the city of Barcelona on Sunday as local rivals Espanyol and FC Barcelona go head to head in the first round of the Primera division this year.

Espanyol, as usual, the underdog of this battle as they currently hold the 8th spot in the table with a total of 23 points in all 16 matches played.

Seemingly a though match ahead for Real Madrid on Sunday as they travel to Espanyol in the 6th round of the Primera Division.

Espanyol with a modest start to the new season managing 6 points in the first 5 matches played placing the team on the 12th spot of the table with a -2 in goal balance.

They managed to win both matches played on home ground in the league so far, against Athletic Bilbao and Getafe but lost all 3 played away making for quite a dramatic difference in results.

Real Madrid currently on the 5th spot of the Primera Division table with a total of 10 points, two below leaders Real Betis and one from bitter rivals Barcelona.

Although it was expected that the two football giants Barcelona and Real Madrid would dominate the competition from beginning to end, it looks line neither has managed to separate from the pack either in terms of results or even play.

Morale is high in their camp after their qualification in the Champions League final against Manchester United but the high expectation for this match can leave them without motivation on Sunday.

Espanyol, with a fairly decent season so far, still hold chances in grabbing an Europa League spot for next season as they sit 4 points below Atletico Madrid, the last team to enter the competition.

Their last match of the competition brought them a much needed victory against Athletic Bilbao putting and end to a 4 game dry run.
