Saturday in the French Ligue 1 an important match for Olympique Lyon as they try and close on OSC Lille with this match against Auxerre.

Lyon’s form took a dramatic turn for the better after their elimination from the Champions League as the team managed four straight victories and a draw in the last round, landing themselves a honorable 4th spot with a total of 50 points.

With 10 points separating them from leaders Montpellier and PSG, Lyon’s real battle if for the third spot, currently held by Lille with 56 points but caution is needed as Toulouse is behind them only due to the goal ratio.

Auxerre, on the other hand, is last in the Ligue 1 table with a total of just 27 points in all 30 matches played and a -9 goal balance.

A glimmer of hope for Auxerre as they managed a victory last week against Valenciennes and with just 3 points from salvation the battle continues.

Saturday in the French Ligue 1 an interesting fixture as Olympique Lyon has another chance of improving it’s position as they host relegation threatened Sochaux.

Lyon seems to have overcome it’s poor run that lead among others to their surprising Champions League elimination by APOEL. They managed three straight victories including a morale boosting performance against PSG last week.

Currently on the 5th spot of the table, with a total of 46 points, Lyon has room to move a step up and overcome Toulouse this week but is in danger of falling to the 7th spot in case of a defeat.

Sochaux has it’s own battle at the bottom of the table. With a total of just 27 points in 28 matches played they now hold the 19th spot of the Ligue 1 table.

All is not lost for them as salvation is just 2 points away and with tow victories in latest matches their morale has certainly seen an improvement.

Quarter finals in the French Coupe de la Ligue on Wednesday with a very exciting fixture as Olympique Lyon hosts OSC Lille for a place in the semi-finals.

Lyon with the advantage of the home pitch for this all important knock out game and a very good form showed in recent games in all competitions.

They went past Saint-Etienne in the previous round, managing a 1-2 victory and they are set to go head to head with one of the favorites for the trophy. With no less than seven victories in their past 8 games played, Lyon shows a great defensive strength coped with a good morale and an appetite for trophies.

Lille managed a comfortable 3-1 victory over Sedan in the previous round but despite placing themselves above Lyon in the Ligue 1 table, they managed only one victory in the past 3 games played.

They still hold a good chance in this battle especially if their defense will hold up in the first half but the disadvantage of the arena and their modest results in latest matches gives them a great disadvantage.
