Ligue 1 table positions: PSG - 2, Lille - 3
A very important fixture in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday as second PSG welcomes third in the standings OSC Lille both teams having the possibility to get the top spot after this round.
PSG is on the second spot of the table but with a total of 36 points in all 17 played, they are separated from surprising leaders Montpellier only due to the goal balance.
This could be a crucial match for PSG in their search for the trophy after an enthusiastic transfer campaign. A victory here can take out Lille as a challenger whilst a loss can leave them with an important deficit.
Lille is on the third spot of the Ligue 1 table, just two points behind their current adversaries but experiencing a far better form with 4 victories in their last 5 played.
Despite this they have suffered an early and painful exit from the champions league, finishing on the last spot of Group B. This will certainly make them focus exclusively on the domestic league starting from this point.
My pick: PSG to win ( under 2.5 goals )

Serie A table positions: PSG - 1, Nancy - 18
Ligue 1 leaders PSG take to the field on Sunday in a match that makes them clear favorites for all three points against a struggling Nancy.
Although having a modest start to the season, the huge investments made this summer by PSG seem to pay off as the team is in the driver’s seat of the Ligue 1 with a total of 30 points in 13 played, followed closely by Montpellier three points behind.
No less than nine straight victories for PSG in home games with matches both in the Ligue 1 and Europa League, a real performance that they look to maintain and improve.
Nancy on a relegation spot for now as they managed only 11 points in all 13 matches played in the competition. They still have room for improvements as teams in the lower half are very close but a change in play is necessary.
Failing to win any of the 6 games played away in the competition it’s hard to see them managing a positive results against the leaders themselves.
My pick: PSG to win ( over 2.5 goals )

Table position: PSG - 15, Valenciennes - 16
Starting the new season far from anyone’s expectations, PSG is desperate to grab it’s first 3 points in the competition as they welcome Valenciennes this Sunday.
Only one point managed by PSG in the two rounds that have been played so far in the Ligue 1, a surprising defeat at home against Lorient in the opening match and a one all draw against Rennes last week.
They have managed a clar and crushing victory this week against Differdange 03 of Luxembourg in the Europa League preliminaries but this doesn’t even come close to their ambitions after the sums spent on transfers this summer.
Valenciennes with a similar record so far in the Ligue 1 as they lost the opening match away to Caen and finished in a goalless draw last week when they welcomed Brest.
PSG will be no doubt the strongest opponent that they have met so far and with no victories in their last 5 games played it’s hard to see them get any points from this one.
My pick: PSG to win ( over 2.5 goals )

First round in the new season of the French Ligue 1 with high hopes from PSG, the team that invested the most in this summer break as they welcome the modest Lorient squad.
PSG no doubt with high hopes from this new season and mounting pressure from their unbelievable transfer campaign as they will have an uphill battle for the trophy.
They finished only on the 4th spot of the table last season with a total of 60 points, four points from third in line Lyon but with an important 16 points gap from champions Lille. PSG’s results in the summer friendlies have not been compelling with alternating form signs that they still have a lot of work ahead with some surprises expected in the first rounds.
Lorient with a though match ahead, having to cope with this very difficult trip from the start. They finished on the 11th spot of the table last season, a comfortable and usual position for them.
Although results in the summer’s friendlies are similar to PSG’s the quality of their opponents cannot be compared to their rivals and with poor displays in away matches throughout, a positive result in this one is hard to expect.
