Two team going through some though phases in this part of this season and Sevilla especially losing ground fast as they miss the sweet taste of victory for some time now. A new opportunity emerges for the to break this streak as Teneriffe is in a bad shape itself.

Sevilla has ended up on the 5th spot of the table with no victories in the last 6 matches played, losing touch with 3rd Valencia and showing a total of just 45 points, same as 6th Athletic Bilbao but with a better goal ratio than the opposition.

Their only hope of claiming a Champions League spot is the 4th place currently occupied by Mallorca 2 points distance  but in light of recent results even this seems to be a hard task. All last 3 matches on home ground where ended in draws with Bilbao, Deportivo la Coruna but more surprisingly against last spot holders in the Primera Division, Deportivo Xerez bringing the record to 7 victories and 6 draws in 15 played.

Tenerife first under the relegation line with a total of 25 point, 5 from salvation but with only one victory in the last 7 matches played their faith may be decided.

They are the only team who have yet to win any matches whilst playing away and their statistic is far from recommending them to obtain a positive result in this game with 3 draws and no less than 11 losses in all 15 played completed with a disastrous goal ratio of 10 scored and 34 conceded.

Sevilla – CSKA Moskva 16 March 2010

One all result in aggregate before this decisive match will kick off and Sevilla has the motivation and support of the home crowd to go past the Russians from CSKA Moskva.

Sevilla is not doing so well these last few week with the team’s last victory dating back on 20 of February, almost one moth without the taste of success for this highly competitive Spanish side in all competitions. These latest performances let them fall to the 4th spot of the Primera Division and created a 3 point gap from third Valencia and mounted the pressure from next in line Mallorca and Deportivo for a spot in next season of the Champions League.

The goal scored in the first leg of the confrontation will give them a very important advantage over their competition as in theory they can settle for a goalless draw and still qualify. This would be a very risky strategy and Sevilla will most likely search for a goal before closing all paths to it’s own goalkeeper leading me to believe that this will be a match with few goals.

CSKA Moskva presence in this stage of the Champions League is enough reason to celebrate for them but we have to note the result obtained in the first leg as they had not played any official matches this year.

The Russian Premier League joust kicked off and for CSKA it was a good debut as they went past Amkar Perm one goal to nil. They have left the impression of a team concentrated on defense with little initiative in attacking fact supported by their recent result, only one goal per match scored in the last 3 played.

My tip:  Sevilla to win (and qualify, under 2.5 goals)

A make or break match for Real Madrid in their attempt to overcome Barcelona at the top of the Spanish Primera Division with this crucial and difficult match against Sevilla on Saturday.

Real Madrid is showing an impressive form in the domestic league with no less than 6 consecutive victories to date, their only mishap taking place in the Champions League where they where defeated by Lyon with the slightest of margins.

They managed to keep their perfect home record with 12 victories in 12 played on Santiago Bernabeu and with joust 2 points from Barcelona the fight for the champions title is in full throttle. Their appetite for attack would impress almost any adversaries as they managed to score no less than 41 goals on home ground whilst conceding only 8 and Higuain is their main weapon.

Sevilla has it’s own battle at the top of the table for a Champions League spot, currently with a 3 point handicap from their main competitors, Valencia, Mallorca is close behind and may cause a huge surprise this season.

They have won 2 out of the past 3 matches played in the competition but suffered a setback last week when they where held to a goalless draw by Athletic Bilbao. Sevilla’s home record is rather decent with 6 victories and 5 defeats in all 11 played looking like an all or nothing team but a modest goal ratio of 16 scored and 13 conceded.
