Dynamo Kyiv last 5 matches: win win win loss loss

Ukraine’s Super Cup on Tuesday with the greatest rivalry consuming yet another episode as Shakhtar Donetsk wishes to continue it’s domination over Dynamo Kyiv.

Shakhtar Donetsk managed to clench both the League title and the cup trophy last season, continuing it’s domination over Ukraine’s football and appearing unreachable for their competitors.

Last time these two teams meet was in the Cup final, late May with Shakhtar dominating the encounter to win 2-0 although having one of their players sent off in the second half.

Dynamo Kyiv no doubt eager for a trophy as their last one dates back from 2009 when they managed to win the Ukraine Premier League and having to deal with ending up second to their rivals ever since.

They ended last season no less than 7 points behind Shakhtar in the league table and coped with the defeat in the Cup final it’s easy to see that their morale is rather low but as with all derby matches where motivation is not a factor they still have their chance and a good result will bring new hopes as the new season starts soon.

My tip:  Shakhtar Donetsk to win  ( under 2.5 goals )

This will most likely not be a walk in the park for Barcelona as they welcome Shakhtar Donetsk, a team that has been giving them headaches in the Champions League for some years.

Barcelona is in a very good form as they defeated Villarreal this weekend and profited from Real Madrid’s defeat to top the Primera Dvision chart with a 8 point advantage over their rivals.

No problems for them on home matches in any competition this season with a current streak of 10 victories scoring an impressive number of goals with a strong defense as well.

For Shakhtar Donetsk, reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League it’s a performance in it’s own but by the large investments there in the past few years and their player quality it’s clear that they want more.

Their morale is good for this trip not only from their good form but also the past results against Barcelona when they managed to grab important points from the Catalans in the group stages.

My pick:  Barcelona ( under 2.5 goals )

Shakhtar – Fulham 25 Feb 10

With only one goal advantage taken in the first leg of the knock-out of the Europa League, Fulham has a very though mission as they travel to a very strong Shakhtar Donetsk team.

Shakhtar Donetsk and their European claims suffered a setback last week as they where defeated by Fulham 2-1, the Ukrainian team has high ambitions for this tournament as they where last year’s winners of the Uefa Cup and any other performance will be considered inferior.

They where the favorites in the eyes of many as they traveled to England against a B rated Premier League squad but came empty handed. All is not lost as the away goal makes them strong favorites for this match and also the qualification in the next phase.

Fulham is clearly the less experienced team in European tournaments of the two but with a very good morale as they claimed 4 consecutive wins in all competition counting the first leg. Nonetheless besides Shakhtar their opposition was inferior so the victories may count only for their morale.

The English side great advantage into this dispute is that the Premier League is in full throttle whilst the Ukrainian league will start this week-end after about 3 months of winter break.

My tip:  Shakhtar Donetsk to win
