Table position: PSG - 15, Valenciennes - 16

Starting the new season far from anyone’s expectations, PSG is desperate to grab it’s first 3 points in the competition as they welcome Valenciennes this Sunday.

Only one point managed by PSG in the two rounds that have been played so far in the Ligue 1, a surprising defeat at home against Lorient in the opening match and a one all draw against Rennes last week.

They have managed a clar and crushing victory this week against Differdange 03 of Luxembourg in the Europa League preliminaries but this doesn’t even come close to their ambitions after the sums spent on transfers this summer.

Valenciennes with a similar record so far in the Ligue 1 as they lost the opening match away to Caen and finished in a goalless draw last week when they welcomed Brest.

PSG will be no doubt the strongest opponent that they have met so far and with no victories in their last 5 games played it’s hard to see them get any points from this one.

My pick:  PSG to win ( over 2.5 goals )

Table positions: Bordeaux -9 , Valenciennes -12

Bordeaux home table position: -15

Valenciennes away table position: -13

A very interesting game and an important one especially for Bordeaux in the French Ligue 1 as they welcome Valenciennes on Sunday.

Bordeaux only on the 9th spot of the table with a total of 15 points in all 10 matches played and a goal ratio of 11 scored and same conceded.

They failed to win any of the past 2 matches in the league as they where defeated by the season’s surprise, Brest and grabbed one point from their trip to Monaco in a 2 all draw.

Valenciennes although 3 spots lower have a total of 14 points, one less than Bordeaux and from their recent results they appear in a better shape than their opponents.

In away matches, Valenciennes managed only one victory from their 6 matches and although not showing an impressive offensive force their defense is good with only 5 goals conceded.

My pick:  Bordeaux ( under 2.5 goals )

Day 6 in the French Ligue 1 with some interesting fixtures this Saturday and a highly disputed game in the bottom half of the table as Valenciennes welcome Lens.

Valenciennes is only on the 12th spot of the table with a total of 6 points in the 5 matches played. They managed only one victory this season against Olympique Marseille but failed to capitalize and lost points on lower rated teams.

Their home ground performances so far have not been impressive with only one victory and a loss against Montpellier by the slightest of margins.

If Valenciennes’s form is poor, Lens is struggling even more in the relegation zone, only above Arlens and with just 4 points earned so far.

Arlens is the only team that they managed to defeat so far, the other one point coming from a 2-2 draw against Monaco.

My pick:  Valenciennes to win ( under 2.5 goals )

Table positions: Valenciennes -14 , Marseille -17

Marseille away table position: -

Second leg of the French Ligue 1 and both Valenciennes and Olympique Marseille are still searching for the first victory of the season.

Valenciennes finished the debut match in the same stile as they closed the last season, with a draw, this time away to Nice.

Finishing on the 10th spot last year, the team has no big claims from the Ligue 1 and a relegation worry free placement at the end of this one is their main objective.

Shocking result for the raining champions Olympique Marseille as they lost at home the first match against newly promoted Caen.

They where incapable of getting an advantage over their rivals as Caen scored the opening goal in the 53′ minute only to close the table 4 minutes from the final whistle with a El-Arabi effort.

My pick:  Olympique Marseille to win ( under 2.5 goals )

Table positions: Marseille -7, Valenciennes -11

Valenciennes away table position: 4

Two teams with very similar results lately in the French Ligue 1 will go head to head this Sunday as Olympique Marseille welcomes Valenciennes.

Marseille has fallen to the 7th spot of the table after a very poor period in terms of results that shows only one victory in the past 5 matches played and with a total of 34 points no less than 3 teams are in reaching range of them and could overtake them in case of a bad step and a game in hand.

Their record at home is modest with 5 victories and 2 draws in all 9 played but especially in terms of their goal ratio where they managed to scored only 12 goals whilst conceding 8, almost one for every match played.

Valenciennes experiencing a though period of it’s own with only one victory in the past 7 played in the domestic league and a total of 32 points, leaving them only 2 behind their current adversaries and a significant advancement in the standings.

Whilst at home they managed only 3 victories all season, the team gathered most of it’s points in away matches with a record of 6 victories and no draws in all 11 played and a positive goal ratio of 19 scored and 15 conceded showing a decent offensive strength.

My pick: Marseille to win
