Second match in the first day of the World Cup 2010 and a very interesting clash between 2 different playing stiles as Uruguay welcomes 1998 champions France.
Uruguay managed to grab the fifth spot in the South America qualifiers, last one that grants a chance in the final tournament. They just eliminated Costa Rica in the playoffs by the slightest of margins with a 0-1 victory away and a one all draw home.
They may not seem like a very strong team but with though opposition such as Argentina, Brazil and Chile to name a few, it’s players are used to strong competition and pressure. This is also the first match in this competition in which 2 former World Cup champions will meet.
Since winning their last World Cup, France’s performances have taken a plunge and the trend continues to this day. Only second in the UEFA qualifying group after Serbia and with some disastrous results in the friendly matches, fans have not much to cheer about.
They usually start big tournaments poorly and only due to their better international experience manage to restore the situation and qualify from the groups stages.
My tip: France to win (draw is likely)
